Vertebrate Pest Control in the Garden
Date: April 15, 2017
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Contact: Lyngso Garden Materials
Sponsor: Master Gardeners of San Mateo & San Francisco
If 4-legged critters are destroying your garden and gobbling up the fruits of your labor, then this is the class for you. You will learn many useful non-poisonous abatement techniques to protect your garden from voles, moles, gophers, birds, squirrels, and deer. Topics will include trapping, creating barriers, and deterrents.
Presenter UC Master Gardener Janice Moody: Janice at one time maintained 6 acres in Pescadero, primarily by herself, which included gopher and deer abatement. With the help of about a dozen Cinch traps, she boasts the trapping of over 400 gophers in a 3-month period. She loves to share her tricks of the trade with her fellow gardeners who might view this as a daunting task.
Presenter Master Gardener Nancy Grove: Nancy Grove gardens on the mid-Peninsula, with a focus on water-wise perennial plantings, small fruit orchard, and raised beds. She raises essentially all of the produce needed for her family, canning and preserving to extend the harvest year-round. A founding member of the UC Master Gardener Program of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties, Nancy enjoys giving talks about various aspects of gardening, learning a great deal from her audiences in return.
Directions: Highway 101, Holly Street exit, Redwood Shores exit, left at Shoreway Road (stop light). The Lyngso first driveway is the entry for trucks, the second driveway is for outgoing vehicles, and the third driveway is the customer parking lot. After you enter the sales office, the classroom is to your right at the end of the hallway.
