Event Details

Co-Presenter Master Gardener Arete Nicholas:  Arete has 15 years combined experience in Health Care Management.  She is a Registered Nurse and an experienced Master Gardener who brings her passion for health and healing in the clinical setting to the garden settings under her watch.  Her special interests are California native plants, growing old roses and herbs, and creating therapeutic gardens for patients and staff in healthcare settings.

Co-Presenter Master Gardener Paul Matalucci:  Paul discovered his love of plants at age 10 and began hybridizing tall bearded iris in high school. A San Francisco-based UC Master Gardener and Park Steward for the Diamond Heights Boulevard Median Project, he is active as a volunteer for multiple community-based efforts. As a gardener, his areas of interest include ornamentals, succulents, herbs, and flowering bulbs. For a day job, Paul is a corporate communicator (Cisco Systems, eBay, Hewlett Packard). He enjoys teaching Master Gardener workshops and works often from home, which allows him to delight in stepping away from his computer and into his Diamond Heights garden.

Description:  Come learn about the Hidden World of Bulbs.  How do some gardeners paint their garden canvasses with colorful bulbs? Tips will be shared for proper selection, planting, and care of bulbs. Come learn why planting them in the fall or the month of November is an ideal planting time to ensure that you will have carpets of color in your garden for the Springtime!
