Pacifica Sanchez Library Garden
A Garden for the Community
The Pacifica Sanchez Library Garden is a collaborative effort between the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties and the Pacifica Sanchez Library branch of the San Mateo County Library with land donated by the City of Pacifica.
The Master Gardeners is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to reaching out to local communities to promote healthy gardens and homes through research based horticulture information.
The primary goal of this Master Gardener project is to develop the Pacifica Sanchez Library Garden in order to grow fruits and vegetables for donation to the Pacifica Resource Center and low-income seniors.
We also plan to:
Educate the public on sustainable gardening practices, such as organic pest management, water wise gardening, composting and edible urban gardening.
Provide Community Outreach through workshops and hands on experience in the garden – from young children to seniors.
Collaborate with the library utilizing books and media that support education in the garden and the community. This would include recipes for produce raised to provide to families receiving the food, books on gardening, books on working to give back to the community and volunteerism.
