Organic Spring and Summer Vegetable Gardening

Description: It's time to plan and plant your spring veggie garden: spicy arugula, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, chard, lettuce, peas, spinach and more! Have year-round vegetables using organic and sustainable techniques. Topics in this presentation will include sowing seeds, cover cropping, caring for seedlings, when to plant, how and when to harvest, and how to keep life in your soil using compost, mulch, bed prep, cover crops, rotation and hedgerows.

UC Master Gardener Presenters

Kathleen Putnam is a professional organic vegetable gardener serving the Mid-Peninsula and is an ISA Certified Arborist. Kathleen has a degree in Environmental Horticulture from City College of San Francisco and her passions are fruit trees and soil.

Lisa Putnam has a BS in Agricultural Economics from UC Davis and also studied nutrition science at Davis. She currently operates a small sustainable organic farm and orchard in Woodside and a home vegetable garden/orchard in Portola Valley. Lisa is also a Master Composter and her passions are soil and compost.
