Come join UC Master Gardeners and community volunteers as we work in the Hillsborough Harvest Garden, a community garden. UC Master Gardeners assist volunteer groups demonstrating garden tasks, explaining the purpose behind every procedure as well as educating on various appropriate garden topics. At the start of every workshop, there is an opportunity for a brief presentation on any applicable garden topic.
The Harvest Garden was built in July 2010 on a vacant lot in Hillsborough, owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. It is funded by the Hillsborough Beautification Foundation (a local non-profit) and is managed completely by volunteers.
The garden is dedicated to educating and encouraging residents to grow edible plants in their gardens, to providing local service hours for local students, and for helping to feed the needy in our area. To date more than 4200 pounds of fresh, organic produce has been raised and delivered to local food banks, and the garden attracts approximately 370 volunteers a year to the Sunday Workshops.
