Master Gardeners oversee a demonstration garden that is part of the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center in Redwood City, a facility where adults can engage in wellness and social activities. The large garden features raised vegetable beds and containers, and a composting area.
Our goals are to demonstrate and teach several gardening skills:
- Growing year-round crops in raised beds and containers
- Engaging in gardening best practices such as amending and mulching soil, watering efficiently and rotating crops
- Caring for succulents, roses, and orchids
- Pruning of fruit trees and ornamental plants
Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center is managed by Peninsula Family Service, whose mission is "to meet the ongoing and emerging needs of older adults looking to maintain their health, independence, and quality of life."
