Yoga for Gardeners

Description:  Gardening helps strengthen your body, increase flexibility, and cultivate inner peace; however, some of the more repetitive motions can also take a toll on your body, like folding forward and lugging heavy soil bags, which can lead to tight muscles, and aches and pains in your joints.

Anna Laurita, a certified yoga teacher for 20 years and hobby gardener will provide instruction on simple yoga poses, from a chair, that you can do before and after your gardening to prevent injuries and alleviate post gardening aches and pains.  As a bonus, she will also introduce correct breathing techniques and share her plant watering practice that helps you perfect calm breathing.  Anna will offer a one-page handout of easy yoga practices so that you have them when you need them in the future.

Please bring a yoga mat to place under your chair.
You may choose to practice also without the provided chair.
You can practice with or without shoes.
Please wear clothing that you can move in comfortably.

Instructor:  Anna Laurita, a certified yoga teacher for the past 20 years, owned and directed Davannayoga, a classical yoga teacher training school in Puerto Vallarta that offered Yoga Teacher Training, daily yoga classes, workshops and retreats.  Anna has recently moved back to California and is honored to lead a yoga practice for UC Master Gardeners.  She is registered with the International Yoga Alliance and has led classes in Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa, Chair Yoga, Seniors Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Children's Yoga.
