Growing California Wildflowers

Description: Now is the time to plant native wildflower seeds for spring and summer blooms. UC Master Gardeners will give a free talk on growing California annual wildflowers. They will discuss the benefits of growing a variety of native wildflowers and how to get started. The 30-minute talk will be followed by a 30-minute hands-on demonstration in the adjacent native plant garden.

Participants will be given a free packet of seeds to start their own wildflower garden of annual wildflowers. All ages are welcome.

UC Master Gardener Presenters

  • Cathrin Callas: Cathrin joined the UC Master Gardener program in 2022 after retiring from a career in engineering. A California native, her life-long love of flowering plants includes a particular interest in California native plants. She currently lives and gardens in San Carlos.
  • Carolyn Dorsch: Carolyn has always had a deep admiration and affinity for all plants, marveling at their incredible ability to survive and thrive in a myriad of conditions. She enjoys seeing plants in their natural habitat, in all seasons, and applies her knowledge of how California natives grow in the wild in order to cultivate them in the garden. Carolyn is also a Master Composter and a beginner beekeeper.
  • Ellen Woods: A UC Master Gardener since 2022, Ellen tends two gardens at her Menlo Park home: one in almost complete shade and the other in hot southwest sun where Mediterranean plants and California natives thrive. She had her first success with native wildflowers last year and is eager to share what she has learned.
