Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Garden Project
Address: 375 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco, CA
Directions: LHHRC is accessible by Muni, the Forest Hill Station is directly across the street. There is free parking near the entrance to the New Pavilion, the main entrance.
Visiting hours: The garden is not open to the public, but residents and visiting families/friends have access.
The garden is currently not open to volunteers due to COVID.
Master Gardeners assist in planning, planting, and growing in one garden area at LHHRC. Our goal is to bring sustainable gardening and environmental information to the staff and residents of the Positive Care Ward (HIV/Dementia) at Laguna Honda. Residents consider the facility their home, and welcome time (either tending to or just enjoying) in their garden.
Currently, there are eight raised beds and open ground for planting and new ideas! Two MGs are leading the completion of new succulent sections in the garden. The area is wheelchair accessible and is a sanctuary where residents, staff members, and Master Gardeners can interact and work together.
The Laguna Honda Positive Care program is the only HIV/AIDS skilled nursing program in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the program goals is to emphasize the therapeutic effects of interaction with nature by providing a secure garden where residents can enjoy "activity, fresh air, meaningful conversation and strengthening ties to the affirming communities that make up one's life.
